About Me

My background is academic, with graduate training in material culture (the study of things), consumerism, and cultural life of 19th century Unites States and women. I’m fascinated by the ways clothing, accessories and personal adornment, buildings, decor, and objects testify to the negotiations everyday people conduct in order to cope with the power of society in their lives. RuPaul says “you’re born and it’s all drag from there,” pointing to the performative role that adorning and manipulating our bodies, clothing, and surroundings have in self-expression.
